On Wednesday, just before 2:15 p.m., NWS added a Marine Weather Statement for people on boats or recreating out on the waters from San Mateo Point down to the U.S.-Mexico border.
The affected area extends 10 to 60 nautical miles out, including San Clemente Island, NWS stated.
The weather statement was issued due to the potential thunderstorms brewing over coastal waters through Thursday evening.
"Any storm could briefly produce lightning, gusty erratic winds, and choppy seas," NWS stated.

They urged mariners to prepare to adjust their plans accordingly and stay updated on changing weather patterns.
Meanwhile, a small craft advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. due to hazardous sea conditions for other southern coastal waters, including the inner waters from Point Mugu to San Mateo Point.
Other affected areas include outer waters from Santa Cruz Island to San Clemente Island, including San Nicolas and Santa Barbara islands, according to NWS.
