Man stabbed at child’s birthday party; charges filed
ST. LOUIS – A man will appear in court later this week for allegedly stabbing another man at a child’s birthday party.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the stabbing happened on Sept. 1 in the 4200 block of East Sacramento Avenue, in the city’s O’Fallon neighborhood.
Police said Frederick M. Burchett, 58, was attending a child’s birthday party with his wife and their children.
While leaving the party, Burchett allegedly heard a neighbor admonishing a child and got out of his car to confront this person.
Police said Burchett took out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the person before getting into his victim and driving home with wife and children.
Police received information from witnesses identifying Burchett as the attacker.
During an interview, authorities claim Burchett admitted fighting with the victim and swinging a piece of metal at him.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Burchett with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Burchett remains jailed without bond. He has hearings scheduled for Sept. 11 and Oct. 3.
