Man sentenced to prison for killing sister's ex-boyfriend, claims he acted in self-defense

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI)-- The San Diego County District Attorney's office announced Wednesday the sentencing of Raymond Lynde, 33, who was convicted of second-degree murder in May after stabbing his sister's former boyfriend 28 times, according to a press release.

According to the report, at the time of the murder, Lynde had just been released from a 12-year prison sentence for committing a series of armed robberies in Orange County.

Lynde was sentenced to 55 years to life in prison for killing Ariel Burquez, 23, in July 2020, when Lynde reportedly ambushed Burquez outside of his apartment complex in Chula Vista and stabbed him 28 times. Burquez collapsed by his front door before succumbing to his injuries.

According to the report, Lynde disposed of the knife, hid the bloody clothes and fled to Mexico.

Lynde had been a fugitive for almost two years until he was located by Mexican authorities in May 2022 and taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Fugitive Task Force at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

According to the report, during the trial, Lynde's sister said her relationship with Burquez lasted about six months from 2018 to 2019. When the relationship ended, she said Burquez allegedly damaged property belonging to her and allegedly shot at her weeks before the murder.

Lynde reportedly admitted to stabbing Burquez, but claims he only did so in self-defense.
