Man sentenced for tracking, shooting ex’s boyfriend

ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man appeared in court Monday and admitted to tracking his ex-girlfriend and shooting her new boyfriend.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting took place on Nov. 3, 2023, in the 4600 block of Korte Avenue.

Police said Troy Story, now 30, tracked his ex-girlfriend using an app, drove to the city’s Penrose neighborhood, and found her sitting in an Alfa Romeo with her boyfriend.

Story opened fire at the car, with one bullet striking the boyfriend in the temple. Story kept shooting as his ex-girlfriend drove away.

Both the ex and her new boyfriend identified Story as the shooting. Story was eventually apprehended and confessed to the shooting, saying he was angry over the breakup.

Story pleaded guilty on Monday to first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action.

The St. Louis Circuit Court judge overseeing the case sentenced Story to 22 years in state prison.
