Man sentenced for deadly crash that killed two young boys

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The man accused in a hit-and-run crash that resulted in the deaths of two young boys has been sentenced to at least 30 years in prison.

Angel Salgado Velasquez, 21, appeared in a San Diego courtroom on Friday for his sentencing.

On Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, Velasquez led San Diego police on a high-speed pursuit in a BMW after they tried to pull him over for speeding in a residential neighborhood. According to authorities, he was driving without a license at the time.

Authorities said Velasquez' car reached a speed of over 100 miles per hour when it hit the rear of a Honda on the 43rd Street off-ramp of southbound Interstate 805, pushing both cars down a nearby embankment. The speed limit on the off-ramp was approximately 45 miles an hour.

Malakai and Mason Orozco-Romero, ages eight and four, were passengers in the back seat of the Honda, which burst into flames after the impact. The two young brothers were killed.
