Man sentenced for 2023 Dutchtown gas station murder

ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis man appeared in court Monday and admitted shooting and killing a man outside a Dutchtown gas station in 2023.

The shooting happened on July 7, 2023, at the QuikTrip at the corner of Gravois Avenue and Chippewa Street.

Police said Mohamed Abid, 45, confronted Jametric A. Steele outside the gas station before shooting him at close range. Steele attempted to run and hide behind parked cars but collapsed and died. He was 52.

The shooting was caught on surveillance video.

On the day his trial was set to start, Abid pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Prosecutors reduced the prior first-degree murder count and dropped a charge of armed criminal action.

The judge overseeing the case sentenced Abid to 20 years in Missouri state prison.
