Man charged with setting SLMPD mobile video trailer on fire
ST. LOUIS – Prosecutors have charged a St. Louis man for setting fire to a police trailer last month.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s probable cause statement, the fire happened on Friday, Sept. 26, at Genevieve and West Florissant avenues, located in the city’s Walnut Park East neighborhood.
Police said Taurus Welch, 30, and an unidentified accomplice significantly damaged the department’s SkyCop mobile surveillance trailer.
The accomplice poured a flammable liquid onto the trailer, which Welch then ignited, police said. Welch then poured additional liquid onto the trailer using a large gas can.
The St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit arrested Welch.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Welch with knowingly burning or exploding and first-degree property damage. Welch was jailed without bond.
The investigation is still ongoing.
