Man charged for last week's University City shooting

CLAYTON, Mo. – A University City man is charged with a shooting last week.

According to the University City Police Department’s probable cause statement, the shooting happened on Sept. 11. A location was not provided.

Police said the victim was outside his home with family members when Cobie L. Johnson and another individual approached.

Johnson took out a gun and began shooting at the victim. Police said Johnson also shot at a Chevrolet Malibu and a neighboring home. Johnson fled the area. No injuries were reported.

According to investigators, Johnson and the victim know one another. Police recovered five .40 caliber shell casings at the scene.

Johnson was arrested later that night, police said.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Johnson with first-degree assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, and three counts of armed criminal action. Johnson remains jailed on a $100,000 cash-only bond. Online court records do not show when he’ll appear before a judge.
