NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A woman is dead and a man is in custody following a fatal assault that occurred in a National City residence on Wednesday afternoon, according to the National City Police Department.
Officers responded to a home in the 400 block of East Division Street around 2:11 p.m. after receiving a report of an altercation. The caller informed dispatchers there was blood inside the residence and described a male suspect who was still inside the home at the time.
When officers arrived, a man matching the description exited the residence and fled through several nearby residential backyards. Police quickly established a perimeter around the area and located the suspect, later identified as Noel Trevino. Despite attempting to flee a second time, Trevino was apprehended with the assistance of a police K9 and what police described as "less-lethal tools."
Inside the home, officers discovered an adult female suffering from traumatic injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded but pronounced her dead at the scene. Further details, including the identity of the victim, have not yet been released.
Trevino has been booked into county jail on suspicion of one count of homicide. National City Police detectives have taken over the investigation, which remains active.
