Man arrested after carjacking, pursuit crash in North County

VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A carjacking and pursuit resulted in a crash Wednesday in North County.

Around 7:32 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a carjacking in the 600 block of Hacienda Drive in Vista, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Authorities say a man demanded the driver to exit the vehicle and was able to drive away from the location.

North County law enforcement agencies were notified of the stolen vehicle.

When the Carlsbad Police Department located the vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 5 at La Costa Avenue, a traffic pursuit ensued.

A tire deflation device was deployed on Leucadia Boulevard and Garden View Road, causing one or more of the vehicle's tires, according to authorities.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Kenneth Ash, then lost control of the vehicle and crashed into two vehicles, a bus stop and a tree on El Camino Real Faraday Avenue, per SDSO.

Officers with the Carlsbad Police Department apprehended Ash. He was taken to a hospital where he was treated. After he was released, he was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

Ash faces charges that include carjacking, felony evading, assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, hit and run and violation of parole.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Vista Sheriff's Station 760-940-4551 or the Carlsbad Police Department 442-339-5647.
