Lockdown at Clairemont High, Marston Middle schools lifted after threats 'unfounded'

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- San Diego police responded to two school campuses in the Clairemont neighborhood after receiving reports of a potential threat Monday morning.

SDPD officers conducted a safety sweep at Clairemont High School on 4150 Ute Drive around 11:30 a.m. Details about the potential threat reported toward the campus were not immediately specified.

Out of an abundance of caution, SDPD also placed nearby Marston Middle School on lockdown and conducted a safety sweep at that school as well.

Police have designated the YMCA at 3401 Clairemont Drive, 2800 Calle Way behind Sprouts and Canyon View Church of Christ at 4292 Balboa Ave. as the reunification locations for parents and guardians.

"Once the lockdown is lifted, the school will be opened for pick up," SDPD stated on X/Twitter.

SDPD told FOX 5/KUSI's Wiley Jawhary at the scene that they received reports about a potential threat at the school after 11 a.m. and that officers will continue to do safety sweeps to make sure there is no threat on campus.

"We're doing our best to make sure everything is safe and dotting our 'i's and crossing our 't's," Lt. Travis Easter said at the scene.

FOX 5/KUSI also caught up with a parent at the campus who said he received a text from his son about the lockdown.

"Think about my little boy. He's 17, but he's still my little boy," he said. "Being worried, being stuck in a classroom, in the dark, worried about what might be going outside while this police presence is here and it's just a symptom of the place that our country is in today."

The lockdown at both school was lifted shortly before 1:45 p.m.

"Threats of an active shooter this morning were unfounded," SDPD stated in an update on X/Twitter. "We take all active shooter threats seriously. We want to thank San Diego Unified and our community for being vigilant."

Parents and guardians were invited to pick up students from both Clairemont High School and Marston Middle School following the end of the lockdown.
