Live updates: Trump rails against Zelensky; White House says no China tariff reductions before deal
President Trump slammed Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on Wednesday over his opposition to a reported component of a peace deal with Russia.
Under the deal, according to an Axios report, Ukraine would be required to recognize Crimea as Russian, which Zelensky called unconstitutional.
“Ukraine will not legally recognize the occupation of Crimea,” Zelensky said at a press conference on Tuesday. “There’s nothing to talk about here. This is against our constitution.”
Trump took to Truth Social on Wednesday and railed against the Ukrainian leader, calling his view “very harmful.”
“The statement made by Zelenskyy today will do nothing but prolong the ‘killing field,’ and nobody wants that! We are very close to a Deal, but the man with ‘no cards to play’ should now, finally, GET IT DONE,” Trump wrote.
This post comes after Vice President Vance on Wednesday also issued an ultimatum of sorts about the three-year long war.
"We've issued a very explicit proposal to both the Russians and the Ukrainians, and it's time for them to either say yes or for the United States to walk away from this process,” Vance told reporters during a trip to India.
Although the stock market rallied Wednesday morning after Trump teased a cut to the 145 percent tariffs on China, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later signaled that there will be no reduction in tariffs before a deal is reached with Beijing.
“Let me be clear, there will be no unilateral reduction in tariffs against China,” Leavitt said on Fox News.
Later on Wednesday, Trump is expected to sign executive orders regarding education at 5 p.m. Education Secretary Linda McMahon is slated to join the president.
