Light scattered showers could return Tuesday, cooler for first week of fall
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The weekend brought light scattered rain across the region for the last day of summer, but the tropical moisture still lingers early this week.
An upper-level low about 450 miles southwest of San Diego is helping to funnel in the moisture and high clouds into our region which is why there are still some slight chances for scattered light showers Tuesday evening. However, much of the activity is favored for north of San Diego County.
Over the weekend, most areas picked up under a tenth inch of rain and any new rain will likely be just a few hundredths an inch.
The low-pressure systems move south and east inland mid-week with some models suggested our mountains and deserts might get some more chances of thunderstorms for Friday and Saturday.
Otherwise, a cooling trend takes place with coastal areas dropping to the low 70s for Thursday, with upper 70s for the valleys, upper 60s for the mountains and low to mid-90s for the deserts.
Sept. 22 marks the Autumn Equinox which occurred at 11:19 a.m. marking the beginning of astronomical autumn in the northern hemisphere. This means on this day we will close to equal amounts of daylight as we do darkness, and the sunset time will occur earlier and earlier until we hit the Winter Solstice on Dec. 21.
In San Diego this week, expect sunset around 6:45 p.m. with sunrise around 6:37 a.m.
