Large-scale Russian attack: Ukrainian air defences down 642 aerial assets, hits by 30 ballistic missiles recorded
Russia conducted a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine using drones and air, sea and land-launched missiles of various types on the night of 1-2 June. Ukrainian air defences have downed 642 aerial assets out of 729 launched.

Details: The city of Kyiv was the main target, but the Russians also attacked the cities of Dnipro, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, Poltava Oblast and other areas.
In total, Ukrainian air surveillance troops detected 729 aerial assets, specifically 73 missiles and 656 drones of various types:
- 8 3M22 Zircon anti-ship missiles (launched from occupied Crimea as well as Russia's Kursk Oblast)
- 33 Iskander-M ballistic missiles (launched from the Russian cities of Bryansk and Kursk and Rostov Oblast as well as occupied Crimea)
- 27 Kh-101 cruise missiles (launched from Russia's Vologda Oblast)
- 5 Kalibr cruise missiles (launched from the Caspian Sea);
- 656 Shahed, Gerbera and Italmas attack drones, Banderol loitering munitions and Parodiya decoy drones (launched from the Russian cities of Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo and Primorsko-Akhtarsk as well as Hvardiiske and Chauda in occupied Crimea).
Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare assets, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups from Ukraine's defence forces have been involved in repelling the attack.
Early reports indicated that as of 08:30, Ukrainian air defence forces had destroyed or jammed 642 aerial assets, namely 40 missiles and 602 drones:
- 11 Iskander-M ballistic missiles
- 26 Kh-101 cruise missiles
- 3 Kalibr cruise missiles
- 602 drones of various types.
Early reports indicated that as of 08:30, hits by 30 ballistic missiles, 3 cruise missiles and 33 UAVs had been recorded at 38 locations and the fall of downed aerial assets (debris) at 15 locations.
The Air Force warned that the attack is ongoing, as several Russian drones are still in Ukrainian airspace. Ukrainians are urged not to ignore air-raid warnings.
Background:
- As of the morning, four people are known to have been killed and 58 injured in the overnight Russian strike on Kyiv.
- Six people have been killed and a further 33, including children, have been injured in an overnight Russian strike on the city of Dnipro. Three more people have been injured in the neighbouring city of Kamianske.
