The orange tabby kittens, Frodo and Sam, were taken to the Helen Woodward Animal Center after they were discovered by a good Samaritan in late May.

The brothers officially became available for adoption on Friday after months of recovery and care by the center's veterinary team.

Frodo and Sam are the only surviving members of a litter of three-day old kittens who were found abandoned and zip-tied together in a shopping cart in Riverside County.

At the time they were found, one of the kittens in the litter had already passed away and two others also died of their injuries shortly after they were rushed to safety.

Frodo had a severely mangled back leg and foot which needed to be amputated. Following the surgery, his brother Sam offered him support with plenty of grooming, cuddles and playtime, according to the shelter.

Now, after an eventful summer, the four-month-old kittens are ready to go home with a loving family.

The shelter says the two kittens are a bonded pair and are required to be adopted together. They must also only be kept indoors and not be declawed.

To meet Frodo and Sam, or inquire about the adoption process, visit the Helen Woodward Animal Center's website or their shelter at 6461 El Apajo Road in Rancho Santa Fe.
