Key roadway connecting SAN's two terminals closed

(FOX 5/KUSI) — The closure of a small stretch of roadway at San Diego International Airport means anyone driving from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 will now have to take an extended detour to get between the two.

Airport Terminal Road, the roadway closest to the terminals, will be closed for at least three years, starting Monday, to allow for continued construction of various projects on the airport grounds.

According to airport officials, the two detour options are:
• From Terminal 1, exit at Harbor Island Drive and turn right onto N. Harbor Drive, then re-enter the airport at Spanish Landing and follow the signs to Terminal 2
• From Terminal 1, follow the recirculation roadway to Terminal 1, pass the Terminal Parking Plaza and then follow the signs to Terminal 2

Any travelers who are walking between the two terminals will be able to access the pedestrian walkway until September 22, when the old Terminal 1 will be permanently closed.

Airport officials remind travelers that the Terminal Loop Shuttle Bus can ferry passengers between both terminals and the Terminal 2 Parking Plaza.
