Details: The evacuees took their pets with them, police said.

"Two pieces of debris flew into my flat and blew out the window. I was sitting by the window at the time and miraculously was not injured. My children's house was damaged – the roof and windows were destroyed. So we decided to evacuate," one evacuated man said.

Local residents said they could not leave their pets behind.

"I love my cats; I cannot leave them. I hope the flat survives, the war ends and we return home. But right now it is unbearable to live here – every day we are afraid and do not know what will hit us next," a woman said.

Evacuations from Mykolaivka take place almost every day.

"Because of the constant danger, the number of people willing to leave the town is increasing. Communication in Mykolaivka is very poor, so evacuation requests are often submitted by relatives, friends or acquaintances of those who want to leave," police said.

Officers reported that they had transported the evacuees to a safer location. Volunteers will now help them relocate to other regions of Ukraine.

Background: Earlier, Ukrainian soldiers evacuated a cat and a dog from frontline positions using an unmanned aerial vehicle which flew the animals 12 km to safety.
