ST. LOUIS – President Donald Trump congratulated Republican legislators in the Missouri House for passing a controversial redistricting, effectively gerrymandering the state’s congressional map to give the GOP a chance to flip one of the two Democrat-held seats.
“Congratulations to Missouri’s incredible Republican State Legislators, who just overwhelmingly voted to pass their new, much fairer, and improved, Congressional Map. It was my Great Honor to win Missouri six times, including Primaries, in 2016, 2020, and 2024 (Getting the Highest Number of Votes for any Office in the History of the State!), and this new Map will give the wonderful people of Missouri the opportunity to elect an additional MAGA Republican in the 2026 Midterm Elections,” the president posted on his Truth Social account. “The Missouri Senate must pass this Map now, AS IS, to deliver a gigantic Victory for Republicans in the ‘Show Me State,’ and across the Country. I will be watching closely. THANK YOU MISSOURI — MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The new district maps from Governor Mike Kehoe’s office significantly alter Missouri’s 5th Congressional District, currently held by Democrat Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, which encompasses much of Kansas City.
The new district would still include parts of Kansas City but spread the boundaries down the Interstate 70 corridor into parts of the Columbia area.
The Missouri House approved the new maps, 90 to 65, with four absences. More than a dozen Republicans, including Missouri House Speaker Jonathan Patterson, joined Democrats in voting against the measure.
The state Senate is expected to pass the bill in short order, with Gov. Kehoe to sign the bill into law afterward.
