Imperial Beach shoreline closed due to contamination days after reopening
IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A water contact closure has been issued for the Imperial Beach Shoreline after testing confirmed the ocean water in that area contains sewage, according to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ).
According to a press release issued Monday from the county, the closure is due to water from the Tijuana River flowing into the shoreline and reaching recreational waters. The presence of sewage in ocean water can cause illness if one comes into contact with it.
The shoreline will remain closed until further testing confirms the areas are safe for water contact. The closure begins at the south end of the strand at Seacoast Drive and goes past the Imperial Beach Pier and north of Carnation Avenue.

This statement comes just days after the closure of several areas of the Imperial Beach shoreline was lifted.
The Tijuana Slough shoreline from the border to south of Seacoast Drive will remain closed until further testing confirms the area is safe for water contact. Check here for the complete list of beach advisories in San Diego County.
