Imperial Beach and Coronado beaches reopen after testing

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The ocean in Imperial Beach and Coronado has reopened to swimmers and surfers after recent water testing.

The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ) on Thursday lifted the closure for the Imperial Beach shoreline at Cortez Avenue, Carnation Avenue and the end of Seacoast Drive. An advisory that was put in place for the water around the Imperial Beach Pier was lifted Thursday night.

The advisory that was in place for the San Dieguito River Outlet, Silver Strand Shoreline, Avenida Lunar and Main Lifeguard Tower in Coronado was also lifted on Thursday, the DEHQ announced.

The closures and advisories were issued by San Diego DEHQ officials after water quality samples that were tested on Thursday met state health standards.

On Friday morning, DEHQ lifted the advisory for Moonlight Beach in Encinitas.

Advisories are currently in place for the water in San Diego Bay at the Lawrence Street shoreline in Point Loma, in Mission Bay at the North Cove -- Vacation Isle, south Crown Point and Fanuel Park.

A chronic advisory remains in effect for the Children's Pool in La Jolla.

A closure has been in place for the Tijuana Slough Shoreline from the U.S.-Mexico border, including Border Field State Park and the Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge, to south of Seacoast Drive since 2021.

The public is advised to avoid the water in that area as it is impacted by sewage and can cause illness.
