I-255 driver reports rock-throwing damaged windshield
CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. - Brandi Matheis was traveling southbound on I-255 near Old Missouri Avenue in Cahokia Heights, Monday, around 10:30 p.m., when she said the unexpected occurred.
An object struck her windshield, leaving significant damage, sending some pieces of glass into her vehicle, and scraping her passenger who did not suffer serious injuries.
Matheis said she contacted the Illinois State Police. She worries about what would have happened to her passenger had the impact been greater.
“It would have come through the windshield, and it would have hit him in the face and killed him instantly. There’s no doubt. Even the police officer mentioned that,” Matheis said.
FOX 2 contacted the Illinois State Police for more information about what occurred. A spokesperson said the incident occurred on southbound I-255 north of Jerome Lane.
The spokesperson said investigators have to determine where the rock came from.
Matheis believes the only plausible explanation is someone throwing rocks, as she noticed larger rocks on the interstate Monday night.
“I’m very worried and concerned that this could happen to somebody else and it could be worse, she said. “Do better. Just do better. There’s no reason to hurt people. Find another outlet.”
