Hotter, drier weather for a fabulous Labor Day weekend
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Clouds have cleared and rain has dried up as a warm weekend takes over for the Labor Day holiday in Southern California.
Leftovers of Tropical Storm Juliette brought some much needed and beneficial rainfall for a normally dry August as well as a break from the hot heat Thursday. Now and into the holiday weekend, conditions are drying out and warming up thanks to the return of high pressure.
Temperatures will be topping out in the low 80s for the beaches, low to mid-90s for the valleys, upper 80s to low 90s in the mountains and close to 108 degrees in the deserts. These afternoon temperatures will be slightly above average for most by a few degrees.

Overnight temperatures will be pleasant and warm with a thin marine layer mainly for the immediate coast, but we should get mostly clear evenings and mornings across the region as high pressure dominates.
As the influx of tropical water vapor exits, it won't feel as muggy over the weekend, but monsoonal weather and humid conditions look to return middle of next week and renew the chances of mountain thunderstorms by Wednesday.
A new summer south swell from Tropical Storm Juliette will elevate surfing conditions this weekend especially for south facing beaches where south/southwest swell will bring wave heights from 3-to-6-foot waves with sets of up to 7 feet. Overhead waves and a lot of energy in the water so should be for our surfing community, but always swim near a lifeguard and watch out for stronger rip currents through the weekend.
A slight cool down is on tap for middle to end of next week with coastal communities back into the mid to upper 70s and 80s for the inland valleys.
