High school in East County placed on lockdown

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley was placed on lockdown Friday, education officials said.

Mary Rose Peralta, Interim Principal at the high school, sent out a letter to families saying they are investigating "a concerning social media post related to our school."

"At this time, we have no information to substantiate the statements made in the post, but we are taking every precaution to maintain a safe and orderly environment for everyone on campus.
We are working closely with law enforcement as they investigate," Peralta said.

The school confirmed that all students and staff are safe.

Once the situation has been resolved and law enforcement assures it is safe to lift the lockdown, the school says it will resume activities on campus.

"Those in attendance at tonight’s football game have been asked to temporarily exit the bleachers," Peralta said.

The incident comes after an elementary school in San Marcos was temporarily placed on lockdown Friday morning after a report that two armed men were seen near the campus, authorities said. The report turned out to be unfounded.
