Gun theft turns violent: Man pistol-whips, shoots at victim

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A Florissant man was charged Friday after attempting to steal guns from someone, then pistol-whipping and shooting at them during an altercation.

According to a probable cause statement from the Florissant Police Department, the incident happened on July 30. Police did not provide a more specific time and location.

Police said Jordan T. Bonds (age not provided) and a juvenile went to the victim's home to look at some guns. Both Bonds and the juvenile tried leaving the home with the firearms, but the victim stopped them.

During the ensuing altercation, police said Bonds pistol-whipped the victim and shot at him. However, Bonds missed, and the bullet passed through the victim's hoodie.

The juvenile entered Bonds' vehicle and drove him away from the scene.

Bonds was taken arrested on Aug. 1. It's not clear if the juvenile was also taken into custody.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Bonds with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, and two counts of armed criminal action. Bonds is in custody on a $500,000 cash-only bond.

Bonds is next set to appear in court for a bond reduction hearing on Aug. 11, followed by a preliminary hearing on Sept. 10.

According to police, Bonds has previously been convicted of second-degree burglary, trespassing, stealing, and child abuse.
