Gas leak reported in Maplewood, some MetroLink service impacts

MAPLEWOOD, Mo. - Officials are responding to an apparent gas leak Friday morning in Maplewood, Missouri, which briefly halted some MetroLink Blue Line services in response.

It's believed the gas leak occurred near Cambridge Avenue and Big Bend Boulevard in Maplewood, near Interstate 44. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes as crews respond.

A spokesperson from Spire tells FOX 2 that a contractor working for a different utility company was doing work in the area and struck a gas main. Gas has now been shut off and "repairs will take several hours," said the spokesperson.

Blue line MetroLink services between the Clayton and Skinker MetroLink Station was halted around 9:30 a.m. as a precaution, but service has resumed, according to STL Metro.

The MetroLink Station Shuttles between those stations were briefly transporting passengers, but bus shuttles have now been canceled.

There could still be some delays on blue line services throughout Friday as trains return to their regular schedules.
