Gala to celebrate decade of College Kids program in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS - The College Kids Program in St. Louis is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a gala event aimed at boosting savings for students' higher education.
The program, which deposits $50 into savings accounts for kindergarten students attending public schools in the city, also provides financial literacy education to families.
The oldest group of students in the program is currently in tenth grade, giving them two more years to save before entering college.
"It feels amazing, even more for our families and students. Collectively they’ve already raised more than two million dollars," said Adam Layne, St. Louis City Treasurer.
The College Kids Program not only starts students on a path to saving for college but also supports them with continued financial education. This includes lessons in budgeting, saving, and understanding credit cards.
The upcoming gala, "A Decade of Impact," will feature silent auction prizes, live performances, and acknowledgments of the partners who have supported the program.
The gala event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
