Former St. Augustine teacher returns to court for arraignment

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A former Catholic school teacher accused of exchanging sexually explicit material involving minors with a man in Colorado is expected to return to court on Tuesday.

Ryan Segura, a former teacher who taught religion at St. Augustine High School, was taken into custody last month on allegations related to the distribution of images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The 27-year-old had been working at the all-boys Catholic school in North Park for about four years when he was taken into custody.

The investigation into Segura began when a man living in Denver was arrested. Investigators learned the man had been swapping sexually explicit images involving minors with Segura.

Text messages between the two men included Segura asking, "Got vids?" and the Denver man replying with "Yeah hbu (how 'bout you?)"

"In the messages, the two users can be seen discussing their mutual sexual interest in children, and exchanging visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct," court documents said.

Segura is scheduled to appear before a federal judge on Tuesday for his arraignment.
