Fleeing suspect offers bystander $1K to act as grandpa to police: Records
ST. LOUIS - A man is in custody and facing felony charges after an unordinary police pursuit earlier this week.
Records say 24-year-old Adrion Johnson was in a stolen vehicle and had violated a stop sign Tuesday in the City of St. Louis when police attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
Johnson proceeded to speed from officers, weaving in and out lanes, including into oncoming traffic. The vehicle was spiked and Johnson exited the car, while it was still moving, leading to it hitting a parked car.
Johnson continued to flee, hopping a fence and entering a resident's yard. He told the resident that he was running from police, and offered $1,000 if the resident told police he was his grandfather, and they were doing yardwork.
The resident refused, according to records.
Shortly after, police arrested Johnson. Upon searching through the stolen vehicle, officers allegedly found a Glock 20, "within reach of the driver's seat," documents noted. Inside Johnson's backpack were over 60 capsules of fentanyl, lab testing revealed.
Johnson is charged with the following:
- Second-degree trafficking drugs
- Unlawful possession of a firearm
- Tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution
- First-degree tampering with a motor vehicle
- Resisting arrest by fleeing
- Resisting/interfering with arrest for a felony
- Unlawful use of a weapon
- Leaving the scene of an accident
- Second-degree property damage.
He is currently being held without bond. An initial appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
