Fatal multi-vehicle crash on I-15 under investigation
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Authorities are investigating what led to a deadly multi-vehicle crash that happened Sunday on Interstate 15 near Carmel Mountain Ranch.
One person was killed in the crash and multiple other people were injured, according to California Highway Patrol.
On Sunday just before 9 a.m., a white Ram pickup truck, a grey Volvo, a green Lexus and a white Tesla were traveling on southbound I-15, north of Camino Del Norte in the HOV lanes.
For reasons still under investigation, the Ram pickup truck veered to the right and crashed into the grey Volvo and green Lexus, CHP stated. The grey Volvo then veered left and hit the white Tesla.
The driver of the Volvo was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Meanwhile, the passenger of the Volvo had major injuries and the driver and passengers of the white Ram pickup truck sustained injuries ranging from complaint of pain to minor. All were taken to local hospitals, authorities said.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash. The cause and sequence of events are being investigated by the CHP San Diego Area. The name of the deceased driver is being withheld pending family notification.
The crash led to traffic delays due to a temporary closure of the carpool lane until noon.
