Fan ejected for wearing MAGA hat at St. Louis City SC game
ST. LOUIS - A soccer fan was kicked out of a stadium for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat during a match on July 26.
The now viral video posted by Michael Weitzel shows officers at Energizer Park asking him to leave, explaining that the club/MLS doesn’t allow political symbols inside of the stadium.
“I’m being asked to leave by police. I am being threatened with arrest. They are asking me to leave,” Weitzel said in the video.
Weitzel attempted to dispute with the officers about the fact that pride flags were allowed in the stadium, pointing to them being political; however, the officer said they were pre-approved.
Other spectators in the video could be heard in the background yelling and booing behind him.
One officer can be heard telling Weitzel he is also a Trump supporter but said he was just following the rules.
In other instances, we’ve seen leagues attempt to separate politics and sport. Just last year, NFL star Nick Bosa was fined for showing off a Trump hat on the field at the end of the game.
According to the St. Louis SC code of conduct, displaying “signs, symbols or images for commercial purposes or for electioneering, campaigning, or advocating for or against any candidate, political party, legislative issues or government action is prohibited.”
