Family mourns loved one found deceased in car

ST. LOUIS - Nathaniel Welch, 48, was discovered Tuesday morning near Harper and Grand, two days after family members believe he died.

Welch was last seen on Sunday, and a nearby resident suspects he may have been sleeping in his car before passing away.

“Man, I don’t care what type of life he lived,” said Earl Welch, Nathaniel’s uncle.

The family is deeply affected by this loss, especially since Welch's nephew, Deandre Pickens, was shot and killed eight months ago near the same area. In the case of Deandre Pickens, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were charged with murder and robbery.

Family members expressed their grief, stating that losing two loved ones in the same area has left them broken.

“He was a great person! A great family man. We looked up to him as children. He’s always been here. We love him. We gone miss him,” said Erica Welch, Nathaniel’s sister.

Welch's death is currently classified by St. Louis Police as a “sudden death,” rather than a homicide. The official cause of Welch's death will be determined by the medical examiner.

The family continues to mourn the loss of Welch and Pickens, as losing two loved ones in the same area has left them heartbroken.

“I love you, big bro,” said Edith Somerville, Nathaniel’s sister. “I miss you so much! I’m in disbelief! I can’t believe it.”
