FAA says small plane had engine issues before landing on San Diego highway
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Stunning drivers on a San Diego highway, a small plane that landed around vehicles traveling at least 50 mph was forced to land due to engine issues, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reports.
In an update on Monday, the FAA reports the pilot of a Piper PA-32 made an emergency landing on Interstate 805 in San Diego after experiencing an engine issue around 5:35 p.m. on Saturday.
The plane landed on the 805 highway near Carroll Canyon Road in Sorrento Valley in northern San Diego County on its way from the San Diego Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport to the San Diego Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, the flight tracker showed.
The two people on board the plane were not injured and no cars on the highway were hit or damaged.
Photos from the scene show the plane sitting against the highway divider wall with traffic backed up behind it.

Traffic was impacted for several hours while crews worked to remove the plane.
The FAA is investigating the emergency landing.
