Extreme heat sticking around through the weekend

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Dangerously hot weather persists in the East County as temperatures climb 4 to 8 degrees above average for this time of year.

The National Weather Service extended a heat advisory in the San Diego mountains through Monday evening, and the deserts will deal with an extreme heat warning until Tuesday night.

Temperatures will climb on Sunday to the upper 70s along the coast and western valleys will hit the upper 80s.

Meanwhile, inland valleys and mountains will hit the low 90s and the low desert could get as hot as 113 degrees.

Through Monday, the county will experience a widespread moderate heat risk while the low deserts will see a major risk.

As the risk for heat-related illness increases, the NWS reminds people to drink plenty of water and stay in air-conditioned rooms.

If your plans take you outside over the weekend, don't leave kids or pets unattended in vehicles and be sure to check up on people who are most vulnerable to the heat.

Temperatures will begin to cool through the latter half of the week with high 5 to 10 degrees below average.
