EU to suspend €2m contract with Venice Biennale if Russia takes part

The European Commission has said it will suspend a €2 million grant awarded to the Biennale Foundation if Russia participates in the 2026 art exhibition.

  • More than two dozen countries have signed a statement protesting against Russia's participation in the Venice Biennale.
  • The statement was signed by the culture and foreign ministers of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden and Ukraine.
