Details: Estonia's Ministry of the Interior said the first anti-drone devices were installed on three sections of the south-eastern land border, including near the Luhamaa crossing point.
Estonia plans to cover the entire eastern border with this equipment by the end of the year.
Quote: "The first systems are in place and operational. This is, of course, only the beginning: we are moving toward a nationwide drone-monitoring network, but this step shows that the preparatory work carried out so far has paid off. Recent drone incidents demonstrate that we assessed threats very realistically when planning our capabilities and made our decisions carefully."
More details: On 29 May, Estonia's Police and Border Guard Board gave Taro an overview of construction work on the eastern border near the Saatse Boot and the status of installing surveillance systems along the Piusa River.
The Ministry of the Interior said the Police and Border Guard Board is currently procuring monitoring equipment for the next sections, with preparatory work proceeding as planned or even ahead of schedule.
Background:
- Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs believes the EU should consider providing additional financial support to border regions affected by drone incursions linked to Russia's war in Ukraine.
- Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has said Russia is deliberately directing Ukrainian drones into the airspace of NATO countries in an attempt to weaken support for Ukraine.
