Eckert's Farms prepares for fall season

BELLEVILLE, Ill. - Eckert's Farms is gearing up for another season this fall.

FOX 2 spoke with Chris Eckert, owner of Eckert's Country Store and Farms, about how the rollercoaster ride of St. Louis weather has treated fall crops.

With the wet spring we experienced at the beginning of the growing season, Eckert mentioned it was tough on pollination, so some varieties of apples did not pollinate as well as others in recent years.

However, Eckert's still has plenty of apples ready to be picked this fall.

Their pumpkins are blossoming and blooming. Eckert's says they still have a few more weeks until they are ready to pick. Pick-Your-Own-Pumpkins begins late September through October.

A new attraction, called Jack's Lighted Trail, offers visitors a half-mile walk through the cornfield featuring a pop-up bar, lots of photo opportunities and live music.

This is an evening event that is family-friendly. Just like apple picking, visitors will have the chance to take a wagon ride to the field to experience the spooky fun filled with Halloween lights, lit up pumpkins and much more.

Tickets officially go on sale Sept. 8. For more information, visit here
