EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. - Charles Zuber Jr., a 100-year-old resident of East St. Louis, was honored with a street renaming ceremony on McCasland Street to celebrate his contributions to the community.

Zuber has lived in the same house and community for 70 years, and his family reached out to city officials to commemorate his milestone birthday. As a result, part of McCasland Street at 33rd Street was renamed Charles Zuber Jr. Boulevard.

Charles Zuber Jr. served as a Seaman First Class in the Navy during World War II. After four years of service, he returned home to work at two meatpacking plants and later at Fairmount Park Racetrack.

Zuber retired from the racetrack at the age of 94, after an impressive 68-year career. His dedication to his work and community has been recognized at both local and state levels.

In addition to the street renaming, Governor J.B. Pritzker presented Zuber with a Lifetime Achievement Award, acknowledging his hard work and longevity.
