E-scooter rider suffers life-threatening injuries in crash near Balboa Park
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A man riding an electric scooter suffered life-threatening injuries Thursday in a solo crash near Balboa Park, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The incident occurred around 1200 Pershing Drive, where police say a 53-year-old man was traveling southbound in the bike lane when, for reasons still under investigation, he veered to the right and exited the roadway.
The man entered a dirt area, lost control of the scooter, and crashed to the ground, authorities explained.
He sustained multiple serious injuries, including a brain bleed, cheek fracture, fractured ribs, fractured clavicle, and a scapular fracture. He was taken to a nearby hospital in life-threatening condition.
SDPD's Traffic Division is investigating the crash. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the man to veer off the road.
