Duo arrested for abducting child in St. Francois County: Sheriff
ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, Mo. - Two men are in custody after allegedly abducting a 1-year-old Tuesday afternoon.
The St. Francois County Sheriff's Department was notified of a child taken from his mother by the mother's ex-boyfriend---who shares no biological relation to the child---and the child's uncle.
An immediate broadcast was shared with all agencies within the county and surrounding areas, and while an AMBER alert was initiated, it was canceled due to not meeting Missouri State Highway Patrol criteria.
The license plate was spotted just before 1:45 p.m. in Farmington but police had lost the car. Over an hour later, at 3 p.m., an MSHP trooper noticed the vehicle in the area of Highway B outside Doe Run, according to officials.
The suspects were aware of the trooper and began an "apparent attempt to evade apprehension" by turning into a private driveway. However, both men, identified as Derick Horn and Daniel Clover of Bonne Terre, were arrested.
The child was found safe inside the vehicle and was reunited with his mother.
Horn and Clover are currently detained at the St. Francois County Adult Detention Center awaiting formal charges, the sheriff noted.
