Drones hit gas terminal, oil refinery, and Chechen government building in overnight strikes deep inside Russia (VIDEO)

Drones attacked multiple targets across Russia overnight on 5 December, hitting port infrastructure in Krasnodar Krai, an oil refinery in Samara Oblast, and a government building in Chechnya's capital, according to local officials and open-source intelligence analysts.

Temryuk port on fire

The Krasnodar Krai operational headquarters reported that a drone attack "damaged elements of port infrastructure in Temryuk. A fire broke out." Thirty-two firefighters and eight units of equipment were deployed to extinguish the blaze. Personnel were evacuated, the statement said.

Russian outlet ASTRA conducted an OSINT analysis and concluded that a gas terminal is burning at the Temryuk commercial seaport.

The port is located in the Temryuk Bay of the Sea of Azov on the Taman Peninsula. According to its website, the facility's main activity is "transshipment of general, bulk (including grain and inert materials), and liquid cargo," including liquefied hydrocarbon gas and other petroleum products.

Krasnodar Krai Governor did not comment on the attack. Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed only one drone was shot down over the region.

Oil refinery struck in Syzran

Syzran Mayor Sergei Volodchenkov confirmed that drones attacked the city in Samara Oblast, located approximately 900 km from the frontline.

ASTRA reported, citing local residents, that the target was an oil refinery. Video footage shows a fire at the facility.

Russia's Defense Ministry claimed eight drones were shot down or intercepted over Samara Oblast.

Grozny City skyscraper damaged

Footage circulated by activists from the opposition movement NIYSO shows damage to a building in the Grozny City complex—a cluster of skyscrapers in central Grozny.

According to ASTRA's analysis, the damaged building at address pr. 2 houses offices of Chechnya's Security Council, the Human Rights Ombudsman, the Audit Chamber, the Election Commission, and other agencies, per the 2GIS mapping service.

Russia's Defense Ministry did not report any drones over Chechnya. Local authorities have not commented.

In total, the Russian military claimed 41 drones were shot down overnight over Russia and temporarily occupied Crimea.
