Driver suspected of DUI arrested after late-night crash in La Mesa

LEMON GROVE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A 33-year-old San Diego man was arrested late Wednesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence after a two-car crash in La Mesa, according to local law enforcement.

The collision occurred around 11:19 p.m. at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and University Avenue, with officers responding to the scene shortly after the crash.

Police say the man was driving a black Acura sedan when he collided with a silver Chevrolet sedan. The driver of the Acura was transported to Sharp Grossmont Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.

No other occupants were reported in either vehicle, and there were no pedestrians involved.

The man taken into custody is expected to face charges under California Vehicle Code 23153(a) — DUI causing injury.

The investigation remains ongoing by the La Mesa Police Department.
