Deputies responded around 6 p.m. to reports of a hit-and-run crash near Prospect Avenue and North Magnolia Avenue in Santee. Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a green SUV.

Around the same time, the El Cajon Police Department issued a “be on the lookout” alert for a similar SUV involved in multiple collisions in their city.

Roughly 30 minutes later, dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a wrong-way driver in Santee. The description again matched the green SUV involved in the earlier incidents.

An off-duty sheriff's sergeant spotted the vehicle heading southbound on Timberlane Way. Shortly afterward, the suspect crashed into two other vehicles at the intersection of Mast Boulevard and Bilteer Drive.

One of the drivers struck in the crash sustained injuries, officials said. The suspect's vehicle then left the roadway and slammed into an SDG&E power box.

Deputies say the man behind the wheel appeared to be intoxicated. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to a local hospital for treatment. His identity has not yet been released.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Santee Sheriff's Station at 619-956-4000.
