Details: The General Staff reported that a fire was recorded at the site. The AVT-1, AVT-3, AVT-5 and AVT-6 primary oil refining units were hit, along with secondary oil refining units. The plant halted production processes.
Information on the scale of the damage is being gathered.
The Special Operations Forces said that the facility, which has a refining capacity of about 15 million tonnes of oil per year, serves as a strategic fuel hub between Russia's frontline and rear units. The strike on the refinery, located more than 500 km from the line of contact, was a joint operation with other elements of Ukraine's security and defence forces.
The refinery has more than 100 tanks with a capacity of about one million cubic metres, as well as powerful distillation, cracking and diesel and petrol hydrotreating units. The facility also has mooring infrastructure on the Volga River, access tracks and railway loading racks capable of filling more than 100 tank cars simultaneously.
The Volgograd refinery supplies Russia's Black Sea Fleet with petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and other products. Its products are also exported through transport hubs on the Caspian and Black seas.
Quote from the Special Operations Forces: "Strikes on the enemy's oil and gas infrastructure significantly limit its ability to supply troops with fuel and fill its own budget. The Special Operations Forces continue asymmetric actions aimed at strategically weakening the enemy in its war against Ukraine."
