Crews contain fire in Julian as heat wave rolls through San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Firefighters were able to contain a vegetation fire south of Julian Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported south of Inspiration Point off of State Route 79. Dubbed the Inspiration Fire, the blaze had burned three acres at a moderate rate of spread as of 2:30 p.m., according to Cal Fire San Diego.

The fire was reported in an area placed under a heat advisory that starts on Wednesday, per the National Weather Service. San Diego County valleys, including the cities of Escondido, Poway, Santee, San Marcos, El Cajon and La Mesa were all placed under a heat advisory due to temperatures expected to reach triple digits this week.

Fire crews were able to fully contain the fire by 6 p.m. at 2 acres.

Live footage captured by SkyFOX/KUSI in the Sky showed firefighters working to put out flames coming from what appeared to be a motor vehicle near the area. Cal Fire Tuesday evening confirmed the fire started near the vehicle.

Smoke from the Inspiration Fire could be seen on Alert California/UC San Diego/SDG&E's live cameras.

Around 3 p.m., Cal Fire posted an update on X, formerly Twitter, saying the fire was 5% contained. The forward rate of spread was stopped around 3:15 p.m.

"We sincerely appreciate the excellent teamwork and ongoing support from @ClevelandNF THANK YOU!" the agency posted on X.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
