Couple feeling fortunate after car smashed into home overnight
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Police say a suspected drunk driver crashed into not one but two homes in north St. Louis County while the families were asleep inside.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the crash happened shortly before 1:40 a.m. on the 10500 block of Murat Drive near Old Halls Ferry.
Home surveillance video shows the car barreling down Murat Drive before crashing directly into a house. Taneika Moore and her fiancée, Maurice Anthony, woke up to “a nightmare.”
“In the middle of our sleep, the whole house just shook,” Anthony said. “Next thing you know, you see glass and our headboard shifted forward and that was it. Started seeing smoke and dust just we got up.”
They were asleep in their bedroom with their three-month-old baby when the car slammed into their home
“It's pretty emotional…that could have really killed us,” Moore said. “Thankfully, we have a really tall headboard and that kinda kept some of that glass from flying on us. Just seeing it, it was crazy.”
Along with shattered wood and mangled siding, two families were left shaken in the aftermath of the crash.
“I'm still brushing glass and dust off me and [my baby],” Moore said.
Police said the driver was possibly under the influence and lost control off the vehicle, leaving the road and crashing into both houses before coming to a stop.
Peggy Taylor, who lives next door, said her home also sustained heavy damage.
“Well, I don't believe in luck. It’s been a devastating experience but I'm grateful; shows that our God is our protector, and he keep each of us alive—me and my grandchildren,” she said.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash. Police have not released the suspect’s name. Authorities are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to move forward with the investigation.
