'Cool Zones' open across San Diego County; extreme heat warning in effect
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- As temperatures are expected to soar into the triple-digits for parts of San Diego County this week, city and county officials are reminding people of several available "Cool Zones" where they can seek relief from the heat.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for San Diego County mountains and valleys from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. Friday, with temperatures expected to reach over 100 degrees.
Meanwhile, the county's desert communities and several other parts of Southern California are under an extreme heat warning until 8 p.m. Saturday, with "dangerously hot conditions" of temperatures up to 116 degrees expected.
San Diegans can seek respite from the hot weather at public cooling shelters, including all county-owned libraries, which are designated as "Cool Zones" until Oct. 31. A full list of sites designated by the county as “Cool Zones,” as well as their hours of operation, can be found at this link.
