Community Project creates tiny homes for vets

ST. LOUIS - A village of tiny homes is taking shape in north St. Louis, offering hope and housing to veterans experiencing homelessness.

The Veterans Community Project (VCP) began its construction on 16 new units, part of a planned 50-home community.

Since the first homes opened in 2023, 10 veterans have already moved in. Each home comes fully furnished, and when residents transition to permanent housing, they take everything with them— at no cost.

Alongside the homes, the VCP Outreach Center provides food, hygiene kits, health and legal services and suicide prevention programs.

The organization helps all veterans, regardless of service time or discharge status.

Built largely by volunteers, the homes carry personal touches, including handwritten messages on the walls.

“These walls are wrapped in love,” said Executive Director Rebecca Tallman of USAF (Ret.).

When complete, the village will give dozens of veterans not just shelter but a supportive community as they rebuild their lives.
