City 2 secures top record in MLS Next Pro
ST. LOUIS - When you take a moment to look at the long list of City 2 accomplishments this season it’s almost hard to keep count.
If we keep it simple, we can start with the team’s 4-2 penalty shootout win last weekend that secured the team’s number one overall spot in MLS Next Pro.
“We just partied a little bit over the weekend,” City 2 defender Miggy Perez said.
The win not only secured the team’s first overall place in the playoffs, but also extended their unbeaten streak to a breathtaking 18 games.
“It’s cool just being with all your friends and all the guys that have been through so many trials and tribulations,” captain Gabriel Mikina told Fox 2 Wednesday. “It’s the best when you win with guys that you felt failure with.”
City 2 has just one regular season game left against Portland on Sunday. Then it’s time for the playoffs which began Oct. 17 and City 2 has locked up home field advantage through the single-elimination playoff format.
“Having fans in the playoffs is going to be huge,” Mikina said. “Energizer Park is the toughest place to play in MLS Next Pro and possible all of the U.S. soccer pyramid. We have the best supporters and hopefully they come out for the playoffs.“
