Child found safe in Sunset Hills; suspect at large

UPDATE: Officials say the 2-year-old has been located and is safe. Police are still looking for the alleged suspect.

MISSOURI - Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) has cancelled an Amber Alert that was issued Monday in Sunset Hills, Missouri.

According to MSHP, a 30-year-old man approached a mother, asking for assistance in jumpstarting his vehicle. Officials say their person-of-interest, identified as 30-year-old Jacob Putman, allegedly took the mother's vehicle with the child, a 2-year-old girl, still inside the back seat.

Putman is described as a white male who is 5'10" and weighs 160 pounds. Police say the 30-year-old has active felony warrants for his arrest.

MSHP reported that the suspected vehicle, a dark blue 2016 Chevrolet, was traveling eastbound on Missouri 30 from Interstate 270, but it was eventually located in the 8500 block of Minnesota in St. Louis by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD).

Law enforcement also say the 2-year-old girl was located. She was found in the 8400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, which is in south St. Louis.

"The child is safe and has been reunited with her mother," Mitch McCoy, SLMPD spokesperson wrote.

SLMPD says Sunset Hills Police will continue its investigation into the reported abduction; officials are still searching for Putman.
