Caregiver accused of stealing from patients in Webster Groves
WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. - A caregiver at Evertrue Laclede Groves Senior Community in Webster Groves has been accused of stealing from residents, using a stolen key card to access multiple areas of the complex.
Carolina Roberts, 31, a private-care duty provider, is facing felony charges for first-degree burglary and stealing $750 or more after allegedly slipping through unlocked doors and taking cash and jewelry from residents.
Evertrue Laclede Groves confirmed that Roberts was hired by a resident in independent living and had passed a background check before the thefts occurred.
The investigation began on September 30th when a resident reported seeing a woman enter her home through an unlocked door. The woman claimed she had the wrong address, but after she left, the resident noticed money was missing.
Officers found Roberts on the property after a vigilant employee noticed her acting suspiciously. Police detained Roberts and recovered stolen property from her vehicle.
Roberts admitted to the thefts and was linked to several other burglaries on the campus. A large amount of stolen property, including cash and jewelry, was found in her vehicle.
After a series of thefts over seven days, the facility's security team began plainclothes patrols and added extra safety measures, which ultimately led to her arrest.
Evertrue stated that resident safety remains their number one priority, noting that all doors are locked after hours, staff wear branded clothing and badges, and there is 24/7 on-site security in place.
The Webster Groves Police Department is still investigating the incidents and asking anyone who may have experienced similar thefts or has more information to come forward.
